The name "Macau", is derived from the name of a Chinese goddess, popular with seafarers and fishermen, known as A-Ma or Ling Ma. Macau is a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Replic of China since 20 December, 1999 and will maintain its social and economical characteristics in accordance to the principle of "One country, two systems."
ST. PAUL'S RUINS
All that remains of the greatest of Macau's churches is its magificent stone facade and grand staircase. The church was built in 1602, made of taipa and wood, was brillianty decorated and furnished.
STATUE OF KUM IAM
The statue is dedicated to Kum lam, the goddess of Mercy. It is 20 meters tall and made of bronze. The construction cost was MOP 30 million..
SENADO SQUARE
A walking tour from St.Paul's way down to thecity centre, enclosed by the historical buildings of the St.Dominic's Church, Holy House of Mercy and the General post Office. The square is a pedestrian zone. IT is inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.
MACAU TOWER
The Macau Tower was designed by the New Zealand architect, Gordon Moller. It is 338 meters high and ranked the 11th highest in the world.
KUM IAM TEMPLE
This Buddhist temple dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy was founded in the 13th century and the present buildings date from 1627. It is one of the biggest and wealthiest of Macau’s temples with a hugh entrance gate and roofs clustered with porcelain figures.
A-MA TEMPLE
The temple is one the three oldest temples and most famous temples in Macau. Built in 1488, the temple is dedicated to the Goddess of seafarers and fishermen Matsu. The temple is one of the heritage sites of Macau being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.

Macau has become known worldwide as East Las Vagas. In 2008, total revenues for the gaming and gambing sector were MOP 109 billion. A short visit in oine of the famous casinos and try your luck.
